Big second half propels Port Hope to 51-31 win over Kingston
The Kingston Lady Cardinals played a great first half of Basketball against Port Hope, but the red hot Blue Stars used a big seond half to beat Kingston 51-31. The first half saw Kingston and Port Hope in a classic battle between two of the better teams in the NCTL. Leading 18-17 in the second quarter Kingston did a great job running the clock down to a get a good shot to end the half, but off a Kingston missed shot Port Hope's Allyson Koglin drained a 3 pointer at the buzzer to get the host Blue Stars a 20-18 lead at the half. The momentum of that shot contiuned in the second half as Port Hope built on there before putting Kingston away. Allyson Koglin led Port Hope ( 6-1, 8-1 ) with 17 points, Kayla Gust added 15, while Kristen Kowalski added 12. Chelsea Ruggles had a strong game leading Kingston ( 5-2, 6-2 ) with 8 points.
Game Ball: Chelsea Ruggles came off the bench with 8 points and proved to be a big spark for the Lady Cards early in the game.
Super Sub: Chelsea Ruggles and Kelsie Richmond. Kelsie did a great job running the point off the bench for the Lady Cardinals.
Coaches take: We executed our game plan to perfection last night for 2 quarters. The second half we weren't as sharp offensively or defensively, but the effort was great all night. I'm proud of our effort, but the bottom line is executing for four quarters. Once that happens we will beat a quality team. I saw alot of improvement last night in all aspects of the game.
Tough Schedule ahead: CPS ( 5-4 ), North Huron ( 5-4 ) and Memphis ( 8-1 ) await the Lady Cardinals.
